Parents of Junior children (Key Stage 2)

17th September 2008

Dear Parents

The Revised Curriculum 2008, which is statutory from this month, means that our focus is now on the children acquiring a range of skills. Our work with TASC during the past two years means that we are already well placed to deliver such a curriculum.

The focus throughout Primary education is now on stage not age and so with this in mind, the Junior department of the school has been organised into lower and upper phases. Children in Years 3 and 4 are being taught in three mixed classes but as there are more children in Years 5 and 6, upper Key Stage 2 has been organised into four mixed classes.

Work in all classes is differentiated to meet the needs of all children. As from next week, however, children throughout the Junior department will be taught maths in groups which will facilitate accelerated learning. We want each one of the children to be as confident as they can be in maths.

As always, our main aim is to ensure that each child reaches their full potential and we are grateful for your ongoing support.

You will have an opportunity to work alongside your child in class during maths or English sessions in the Spring Term but in the meantime, you are invited to attend a short MATHS WORKSHOP at 9am on Friday, 26th September when you can find out about the latest methods – a great help for supporting your child with homework!

Best wishes

K. Evans.
