| SPRING TERM 2009 |
Dear Parents
Happy New Year everyone, I hope you all had a good holiday. It's certainly been a very cold start to the new term and we've all been feeling very grateful that Mr. Winston is at school before most of us are up and about making sure that we're all going to be warm enough throughout the day.
We've got another very busy term ahead. We're particularly excited about our new Cooking Classroom. We'll be holding an Open Day for you to come and have a look at this and we'll be running an after-school Cookery Club so that parents and children can enjoy cooking together.
There will be another chance this year for parents and grandparents to acquire some new computer skills – helped by the children of course! (Details of this to follow.) We also hope you'll join us once again later on in the term for our Fairtrade Coffee Morning when there'll be an opportunity for you to look at some of the children's work, including some of their TASC projects.
We're setting ourselves the challenge of winning the Yellow Woods competition once again this year and we need your help and support to do it! We'd be grateful if you could send in any old Yellow Pages or Thompson Directories that you might have.
Information on what the children will be learning during the term will be sent out next week and we hope to have the website up and running before half term.
I'm pleased to welcome Mrs. Bebb to the school. Mrs. Bebb will be teaching Years 5 and 6 while Mrs. Walsh is on maternity leave.
A few reminders:
v JEWELLERY – For Health and Safety reasons, NO jewellery should be worn during the school day. Any child who has recently had ears pierced, must be sent to school with plasters to cover their ears for the first six weeks. No responsibility will be taken for lost jewellery.
v UNIFORM – All children are expected to wear school uniform at all times. Your support with this is appreciated. We seem to collect lots of lost clothing so we intend putting these items out for you every Friday for identification.
v ATTENDANCE – Governors have set a target of 95% for this school year and we need your help to achieve this. Many of the Junior children walk to school on their own, so with their safety in mind, please contact the school if your child is going to be absent – if possible between 8:40 and 9:15. All absences must be reported and a letter brought into school/phone call made to Mrs. Murphy in the Reception Office.
v PUNCTUALITY – It is very important that all children arrive at school on time in the mornings. The children get upset if they miss introductions to lessons and they obviously find it difficult to catch up. The Welsh Assembly Government require us to monitor persistent late-comers and to report them to the Education Welfare Officer.
Dates for the diary are attached and updates will be sent regularly.
I look forward to seeing you some time in the term.
Best wishes
Mrs. K. Evans.
